A Closer Look At Our Collection; Fanfare Label

Esther Knight, founder of Fanfare Label

The new Repurposed, Reused & Recycled Collection from Fanfare Label incorporates bold and contemporary designs with repurposed and reused materials.

Classic styles are updated using modern tailoring to create unique shapes and textures, united by a calming, muted colour palette. Each item transcends micro-trends and seasonal styling, instead providing a timelessness; our garments will remain wardrobe staples for years to come.

What are the first words that come to mind when picturing sustainable clothing? You’d be forgiven for thinking “hippie”, “unfashionable” or “tasteless”. But these dated preconceptions about conscious attire are a thing of the past, and Fanfare Label is here to prove it.

According to the European Clothing Action Plan, the UK Is the epicentre of fast-fashion in Europe, with each person buying an estimated 26.7kg of clothing every year (equating to 2 million tonnes total), compared to an average 15.6kg for individuals across Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden. In the UK, an average of 3.1kg of this clothing is wasted. While 2.48kg of this wastage is in perfectly good condition, around 0.3kg is recycled and only 0.4kg is reused. Here at Fanfare Label, we work to reduce this statistic by using clothing and textile wastage to create our collections.

Fanfare’s classic designs and modern silhouettes defy the stereotypical minimalism and the lofty price tags that are often associated with sustainable fashion, without compromising on ethical or environmental standards. Wearable styles mean that our conscious clothing can reach a much wider demographic, helping to transform the trend-driven consumer’s wardrobe into a sustainable haven.

Opting for a seasonless business model means that Fanfare reduces the amount of pressure on our supply chain, allowing for high-quality design that doesn’t cut corners in order to meet deadlines. Each garment is crafted with purpose in the UK, produced by artisans who love what they do and are paid fairly for it.

We take an avant-garde approach to sustainability, centring around three main pillars; repurposing, reusing and redesigning. The Fanfare collection is entirely plastic-free, with sustainably sourced materials accredited by organisations including OEKO-TEX and GOTS. The collection also includes dead-stock and roll-ends of fabrics that would otherwise be discarded in landfill sites by industry operations.

Fanfare’s Recycled Jeans

Our Recycled Jeans

Did you know that jeans have a huge impact on the environment? Around 2 billion pairs of jeans are made every year, using 2 million tonnes of chemicals in the process plus 2,630 litres of water per pair of jeans.  Our range of jeans are pre-loved and given a new lease of life by our upcycling artisans, using patches, tassels, and other fabric off-cuts to create unique stand out pieces. This process is entirely zero-waste as every ounce of fabric is used within the design.

By shopping our recycled jeans each pair saves:

  • 9500 litres of water

  • The 34kg of CO2 emitted to produces one pair, similar to taking a car and driving for 111km

  • 1kg Waste Saved from UK landfill

  • Supports 1.5 days of fair working conditions & pay

Our mission is not to produce new but reuse what is already out there as only 15% of all fashion products are actually recycled or up-cycled.

85% of our clothes are disposed of into landfills where it can take up to 40 years for them to decompose if they contain nylon, or 200 years if they contain polyester.

On average 14 million tonnes of clothing are trashed each year in the US alone; putting them through a recycling programme would be the equivalent of taking 7.3 million cars and their carbon dioxide off the road every year.

We have researched the environmental impact of different items of clothing, so that you can make an empowered choice when it comes to consuming fashion. The good news is that by shopping with us, you can make all those savings & save the planet, a win win situation.
